Meridian residents, please be advised that the intersection at Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road will be closed from 7pm on Sunday 4 January to 5am Friday 13 February 2026 as part of a major upgrade to improve traffic flow, safety and convenience for the community.
What’s happening during the closure
- Removal of the existing roundabout
- Installation of underground traffic signal infrastructure
- Relocation of water and other services, and drainage upgrades
- Asphalt works on the southbound lanes of Thompsons Road
- Start of shared walking and cycling paths on the south-east and south-west corners
Once the intersection reopens, a smaller temporary roundabout will be in place to help keep traffic moving while construction continues behind barriers.
Access and detours
Residents can still access their properties via Thompsons Road or Berwick-Cranbourne Road. Plan for an additional 10 minutes travel time locally and advise visitors from outside the area to allow an extra 30 minutes. Pedestrians will be directed via Matterhorn Drive until the upgrade is complete.
